Welcome to the Stephen K. Hayt Elementary School's website. Our school serves the proud community of Edgewater, in Chicago's North Side. We serve students from all over the world, Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Hayt is also recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education as fully accredited. Hayt's success is a result of a dedicated teaching staff, diligent students, committed parents, devoted school personnel, a tireless Local School Council and numerous concerned community members. Our school's motto is "Together, We Make A Difference," and I can honestly say that this is true. . . together, we offer our students a plethora of activities throughout the year which includes participation in city-wide athletics, educational clubs and academic support.

Our school also offers our students a spacious library, an art room, a fully equipped science lab, 2 computer labs with wireless internet, and a technologically advanced auditorium. Musically, we offer our students chorus and band.

Numerous of Hayt teachers have earned their Masters Degrees, are Rochelle Lee participates, and continually participate in professional development beyond NCLB requirements. Two of our staff members are DRIVE Award winners, Sawar Baig and Nancy Tarpey Cole. Hayt School is also a Professional Development School with Loyola University Chicago, hosting student-teachers for a year of practicum experience; bringing energy and innovative ideas for our students.

Our parents have many opportunities to be involved at Hayt, such as No Child Left Behind Parent Advisory Council (NCLB-PAC), Bilingual Advisory Council (BAC), and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). We also host parent workshops throughout the year addressing reading, math and safety concerns. In addition, Hayt offers ESL classes with the generosity of local community groups. A community group, Friends of Hayt, is dedicated to assisting our school in numerous capacities.

Our website will provide students, parents and community members with internet resources and ongoing information regarding our school. Please contact our webmaster for website suggestions.

Sincerely,

Daniel Gomez
